Cookie Policy
Last Updated: 12 July 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Scribbin uses cookies and similar technologies. The short version: we keep things simple and only use the cookies we genuinely need to sign you in and keep the service secure. This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
In a nutshell: We use only strictly necessary cookies. We do not use advertising, marketing, or third-party tracking cookies, and we don't follow you around other websites. Because of this, we don't need to show you a cookie consent banner.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit. They let a website remember things between pages and visits — for example, that you're signed in.
2. The Cookies We Use
We only use strictly necessary cookies. These are essential for the site to work — they can't be switched off without breaking core features like signing in and checking out. Under UK rules (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), strictly necessary cookies don't require your consent, which is why you won't see a cookie pop-up on Scribbin.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Session (sign-in) | Keeps you securely signed in as you move around your account | Until you sign out or it expires |
| Security | Protects forms and requests against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) | Session |
| Stripe | Set by our payment provider, Stripe, during checkout to process payments securely and help prevent fraud | Set by Stripe |
3. Cookies We Don't Use
To be clear about what we don't do:
- We don't use advertising or retargeting cookies.
- We don't use third-party analytics or tracking cookies to build a profile of you.
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
If we ever introduce optional cookies (for example, analytics to help us improve the app), we'll update this policy and ask for your consent first, where the law requires it.
4. Other Storage in Your Browser
As well as cookies, Scribbin uses your browser's built-in storage to make the app work smoothly. This information stays on your device and isn't used to track you. We use it to:
- Save your progress in the story creation wizard so you can pick up where you left off
- Remember your reading preferences (such as narration settings)
- Keep the interactive reader running smoothly
You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Scribbin.
5. Third-Party Services
Some trusted providers we rely on may set their own cookies when you use certain features:
- Stripe (payments) — see Stripe's Privacy Policy.
When you generate stories and illustrations, your prompts are sent to Google's Gemini service, and narration is generated by OpenAI. These services process your request but don't set cookies on Scribbin. You can read more about who we work with in our Privacy Policy.
6. Managing Cookies
Because we only use strictly necessary cookies, there's nothing optional to switch off. If you'd still like to control cookies, you can do so through your browser settings — but please note that blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in and using Scribbin.
Here's where to find cookie controls in popular browsers:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data
7. Children
Scribbin is designed for adults to create stories for the children in their lives, not for children to use directly. We don't knowingly set cookies for children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and want to clear cookies from a shared device, you can do so through your browser settings.
8. Where You Live
We're based in the UK and follow UK cookie rules (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the UK GDPR). If you're in the EU/EEA, the ePrivacy rules and EU GDPR give you the same protections. If you're in California, you can opt out of the "sale" of personal information — though we don't sell your information or use tracking cookies in the first place.
9. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add new features. We'll change the "Last Updated" date at the top, and where a change means we need your consent, we'll ask for it.
