This Cookie Policy explains how Scribbin uses cookies and similar technologies. The short version: we use the cookies we need to sign you in and keep the service secure, and — only if you say yes — cookies that tell us which of our adverts brought you here. This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
In a nutshell: We use strictly necessary cookies to run the site. With your permission, we also use Google Ads cookies to see which of our ads bring people to Scribbin. If you say no, nothing is sent to Google. We never use cookies to show you personalised ads or follow you around other websites.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit. They let a website remember things between pages and visits — for example, that you're signed in.
2. The Cookies We Use
Strictly necessary
These are essential for the site to work — they can't be switched off without breaking core features like signing in and checking out. Under UK rules (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), strictly necessary cookies don't need your consent.

Optional — ad measurement (only if you say yes)
When we advertise on Google, these cookies let Google tell us whether someone who clicked one of our ads went on to create an account or make a purchase, so we can stop paying for ads that don't work. We ask first with a banner (open "Cookie details" on it to see exactly what each kind of cookie does). If you choose "Essential only", or simply ignore the banner, Google's code isn't loaded at all and nothing is sent to Google.

3. Cookies We Don't Use
To be clear about what we don't do:
- We don't use retargeting or personalised-advertising cookies — we never ask Google to show you ads based on your visit.
- We don't use analytics or tracking cookies to build a profile of you.
- We don't sell your data.
If we ever add other optional cookies, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent first.
4. Other Storage in Your Browser
As well as cookies, Scribbin uses your browser's built-in storage to make the app work smoothly. This information stays on your device and isn't used to track you. We use it to:
- Save your progress in the story creation wizard so you can pick up where you left off
- Remember your reading preferences (such as narration settings)
- Keep the interactive reader running smoothly
You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Scribbin.
5. Third-Party Services
Some trusted providers we rely on may set their own cookies when you use certain features:
- Stripe (payments) — see Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Google Ads (ad measurement, only if you accept) — see Google's Privacy Policy.
When you generate stories and illustrations, your prompts are sent to Google's Gemini service, and narration is generated by OpenAI. These services process your request but don't set cookies on Scribbin. You can read more about who we work with in our Privacy Policy.
6. Managing Cookies
You can change your mind about ad-measurement cookies at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of the page. If you withdraw consent, we delete those cookies straight away and nothing further is sent to Google. You can also control cookies through your browser settings — but please note that blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in and using Scribbin.

7. Children
Scribbin is designed for adults to create stories for the children in their lives, not for children to use directly. We don't knowingly set optional cookies for children, and we never show the ad-measurement question on the pages children read — the book reader and shared collections. If you're a parent or guardian and want to clear cookies from a shared device, you can do so through your browser settings.
8. Where You Live
We're based in the UK and follow UK cookie rules (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the UK GDPR). If you're in the EU/EEA, the ePrivacy rules and EU GDPR give you the same protections. If you're in California, you can opt out of the "sale" of personal information — we don't sell your information, and our optional ad-measurement cookies are only set if you say yes.
9. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add new features. We'll change the "Last Updated" date at the top, and where a change means we need your consent, we'll ask for it.
